What is your take on the maxi skirt/dress trend? Do you have any suggestions on how to wear and style it?
Yes, I love this trend! I find that maxis are a great transitional piece to carry you from season to season, and that they lengthen everybody!
The key to this trend in my opinion, is balancing proportions correctly and accessorizing. Make sure that your maxi is either just above or just grazing your feet–if it is too long or too short on you the trend won’t look right. Also if your maxi is too long it could be quite dangerous!
In terms of accessorizing your maxi, I love a motorcycle jacket (real leather or faux) over it, because this can really edge up the trend and eliminate dowdiness.
Also, I love the look of layering a scarf (printed or solid) over your maxi dress or skirt (this will give you added warmth if you’re not wearing sleeves) and add an element of cool to your look as well. Just be sure to wear a scarf that is a lightweight fabric like linen, jersey, or cotton–anything thicker will add bulk to your look.
Another great accessories options for your maxi dress or skirt are bracelets or bangles. Whether chain, wood, beaded, or leather, a stack of bracelets and bangles add individuality and uniqueness to this look.
Lastly, don’t forget shoes! I personally love a great wedge or sandal on this look- no stilettos please!
